How might the UK respond to rising geopolitical tensions in the South China Sea and the Taiwan Strait?

This question will be explored by our panel – who have subject matter expertise and experience in taking National Security Council decisions during crises – as they reflect on the findings from an event held earlier in the day, which simulates this imagined geopolitical crisis. The panel will also draw on their expertise for a broader discussion on where the UK sits in the geopolitical nexus of the region.

Speakers:

  • Chair: Suzanne Raine (Associate Lecturer at the Centre for Geopolitics, Cambridge)
  • Prof William Hurst (Chong Hua Professor of Chinese Development, Cambridge)
  • Dr Thomas Grant (Faculty of Law, University of Cambridge)
  • Amber Rudd (Home Secretary, 2016–18)
