The Centre for Geopolitics is running a study group in geopolitical risk analysis in the academic year 2023-24. The group is for final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students who are interested in careers in political and geopolitical risk analysis and aims to develop some of the practical skills required in the profession including online research, critical thinking, forecasting, and written and spoken presentation. The study group will be organised around a set of real-life case studies involving analysis of international developments taken from the week’s news. Participants will also draft a simulated political risk assessment for the commercial sector and a country risk assessment, involving elements of economic and regulatory risk. Participants will be expected to research and draft analyses between sessions and to present and discuss their findings in the classroom. The course is not formally assessed but participants may seek written feedback and references at the end. The study group will be led by Dr Timothy Less, a consultant to the commercial sector and a graduate of the Centre for Geopolitics.
