Shamsher S. Bhangal is a PhD student in the Faculty of History researching the doctrine of Staatsräson in modern German historiography.

He has written about the war in Ukraine for the Wilson Centre’s ‘Russia File’ and has forthcoming publications with The Fletcher Forum of World Affairs and Doing History in Public.

His broader research interests include European diplomatic history since 1848. Before beginning the PhD he completed the MPhil in Political Thought and Intellectual History, also at the University of Cambridge.
