The Baltic Geopolitics Programme successfully held its first major parliamentary event at the House of Lords on 20 February, on ‘Energy security in Northern Europe and the Baltic’, working in partnership with the UK FCDO Network of Liberty Fund. Over 100 took part including politicians, diplomats, academics, defence officials and representatives from businesses across the region. After an introduction from Graham Stuart MP, Minister for Energy Security and Net Zero, we heard panels on ‘Energy security and the green transition’, and ‘The protection of critical energy infrastructure.’ All emphasised the importance of increasing cooperation on energy security, as well as the need for states to consider the geopolitical threats the region faces while pursuing their paths to net zero. The event was supported by a detailed report on the applied history of energy security in the region. This report will be published in due course, together with reflections on the event.
