Centre for Geopolitics

Providing historically-grounded approaches to enduring geopolitical problems.

Jemima Baar graduated from the University of Cambridge with a Double Starred First in Theology, Religion, and the Philosophy of Religion in 2021. She will begin a Master’s in International Affairs with a concentration in East Asian security policy at Columbia University in September 2022.

She was previously a Research Assistant to Dr. Kun-Chin Lin, the former Deputy Director of the Centre for Geopolitics. She was Executive Director of The Wilberforce Society, which is the U.K.’s oldest student-run think tank, based at the University of Cambridge, from February 2019 to March 2020. During her tenure, she co-founded the Global Student Policy Alliance, the first international network of student-run think tanks. In recognition of her contribution to The Wilberforce Society, she became the youngest-ever appointee to its Board of Trustees in May 2020. She was the Managing Editor of Comparative Politics at the Cambridge Journal of Political Affairs from April to October 2020. She has been Senior Editor of Manara, the Cambridge Middle East and Africa Forum’s magazine on current affairs in the Middle East, since May 2020.

She has a particular interest in the ideological underpinnings of Chinese foreign policy, the relationship between geoeconomics and geopolitics, and Chinese engagement in the Middle East and North Africa.
