Centre for Geopolitics

Providing historically grounded approaches to enduring geopolitical problems

The Military History Working Group gathers Cambridge-based scholars working on the history of war and the military to discuss each other’s work and approaches. Convened by Dr Eamonn O’Keeffe, the National Army Museum research fellow at Queens' College, it is ecumenical in terms of chronology, discipline, and scope.

So far, the working group has hosted fascinating presentations on topics ranging from guerrillas in the Napoleonic Wars to representations of Mesoamerican conflict in modern video games. It also co-hosted a roundtable on ‘The Army and the Union in the long 18th Century’ in collaboration with the UK Union Programme.

The military history working group meets several times a term at Fitzwilliam House on Monday afternoons. The group encourages papers and participation from students, early career researchers, and faculty members. Members of the public are also welcome; please email Eamonn O'Keeffe to indicate your interest in attending.
