With Suzanne Raine, Affiliated Lecturer.

Episode 2: Defiance and Revolution in Iran, with Ali Ansari

Suzanne Raine talks to Professor Ali Ansari of St Andrew's University about what led to the 1979 revolution and the creation of the radical, resistance state of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Part of the Resistance, Radicalisation and Religion Series:

Suzanne Raine, Affiliate Lecturer, explores how resistance to authority has interacted with religious and political extremism. Following the deadly Capitol Riot in Washington D.C. this January, academics and counter-extremism experts will use current and historical examples to explore how extremist movements learn from each other, the role of belief – religious or otherwise –  in motivating or enabling people to rebel and resist, the impact of being on the 'losing side’, and how society might respond to radicalisation.
